Month of the Military Child

April was Month of the Military Child. Recently, Amy Harvey, Student Support Monitor, shared information about the supports in place for military students.

Due to our close proximity to Fort Riley, Eisenhower Elementary is proud to have military-connected students attend our school.  There are many area families who are currently experiencing deployments or training exercises that take soldiers away from their families. Our school wants to assist these families by showing support to our students during these challenging times.

Eisenhower is currently holding small groups for children whose parent is deployed. Each group meets twice monthly and will be under the supervision of Mrs. Amy Harvey and Mr. Steven “Dale” Brown, our Student Support Monitors. Mrs. Harvey has been a military spouse for eighteen years and has experienced seven deployments. Mr. Brown spent six years on active duty and is currently serving his fifth year in the National Guard. Additionally, Mr. Brown has been through two deployments. We both understand the unique challenges that military families face and are excited to have this opportunity to work with your children.

We want our students to have a strong connection to their family, school, and community. It is our hope that these small groups help support positive peer relationships where military children feel understood and appreciated.   We use a variety of resources written for military children such as books, videos, crafts, games, and activities.

If you would like for your military child to participate, please contact Mrs. Harvey or Mr. Brown at the school at (785) 717-4340. We will send home a permission slip which parents need to sign.
