October eNewsletter

Walk a Mile The Geary County Healthcare Foundation in conjunction with the Bramlage Family Foundation will sponsor the Walk a Mile on Friday, October 6 at 10:15 AM. The route will be from Eisenhower to South Park and back to Eisenhower. Each student or adult who participates will have his or her names entered into a drawing. The primary grade students have a change to win a scooter and helmet, a student in the intermediate classes can win a bicycle and helmet and there will be an “adult” prize for adults. All parents and siblings are invited to walk with us and strollers or wagons are welcome. No dogs please.

Color Run Eisenhower Elementary’s first ever Color Dash/Fun Run will take place Thursday, October 12th, 6:00 PM, in Eisenhower’s back yard. There is a $10.00 entry fee for each participant (adult or child) and this will include your shirt and a hot dog meal. This fun event is sponsored by our PTA and promises to be a really creative, family evening. Each of you making the dash will find yourself a while new color, so come and see what the fun is all about. Your entry fee is due by October 2nd. All money collected will be used to support events for our students.

Jump Rope for Heart Kelly Priest, Eisenhower’s PE Teacher, has coordinated The American Heart Association’s Jump Rope for Heart campaign from Monday, September 25th until Friday October 6. Students participate by jumping rope and earning their Jax. All proceeds will benefit the American Heart Association. In the past we have raised over $2,000.00 so we are trying to match or beat that amount. Students must turn in their packets by Friday, October 6th.

Individual School Pictures We are going to have our individual picture day on Tuesday, October 24th. We had a conflict in scheduling in September, so it really will happen in October. As we said in our last newsletter, the pictures are just taken from the waist area up, so don’t worry about new shoes or slacks, just a nice t-shirt or blouse and clean, combed hair, and the pictures will turn out as special treasures. Packets will come home so you can place your orders, but please remember to enclose your payment.

Parent/Teacher Conferences Our fall conferences are set for Monday, October 16th, 3:40 to 7:40 PM, Wednesday October 18th, 3:40 to 7:40 PM and the morning of Thursday, October 19th, from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM. Notes have already gone home to confirm your appointment times. If you are unable to keep your confirmed time, call our office (785) 717-4340 or contact your child’s teacher so they are not waiting for you and a new time can be set. Please try to be on time for your appointment. IF you are late, your time with the teacher will be cut short so it does not run into the next parent’s time. These conferences are very important toward the progress of your student’s education.

Book Fair Our first book fair of the school year will take place during the month of October. Opening day will be October 11th and it will close October 18th. The library will stay open during parent/teacher conferences for your shopping convenience. Parents, if you send money to school so your student can shop, if for instance, they are interested in a $5.00 item, there will be taxes applied, so please send enough money. On the other hand, please do not send large amounts of money because sometimes it can be lost. Parents are welcome to shop with their student.

Halloween Activities Eisenhower’s parade of costumes and parties in the classroom will take place on Halloween Day, October 31st. Our characters will fill the gym beginning at 1:40 PM and all parents, other relatives and friends are welcome to come and watch and take pictures. Following the parade, students will go back to the classrooms for the party time. If you are not a room parent or have been asked by the teacher to help, we ask that you limit your visit to just the parade time. Our classrooms are very crowded on any given day, and there just is not room for all parents and guests. We thank you for understanding.
