Welcome Back The 2017/2018 school year is two and a half weeks along and it’s going very smoothly. All our returning students are finding their way around the building like they have never been gone, students and staff are doing a great job of ignoring the construction noise and mess. The good news is it will all get better as we near the completion of the addition. Our kindergartners have pretty much decided they will stay in school… for a while anyway. We do ask those dropping off students in the morning to slow down so all are safe, as well as during the after school pick-up time, just be aware of others and of the safety of our students.

Eisenhower Shirts The Eisenhower PTA has chosen new shirts for us this year. We have had the red and blue ones for several years, and while they are still a great design, the PTA went in a whole new direction and our new design is grey with a happy eagle on the front along with a red, white and blue color scheme. While supplies last, the red and blue shirts are on half price sale, but the sizes are getting limited. The new grey shirts are short sleeved and the purchase price is $12.00. Most Fridays during the school year are called Eisenhower shirt days and we encourage our students and staff to wear one of the logo shirts if possible. Even though the shirts are short sleeved, it is always a good look and warmer, to wear a long sleeved shirt under the Eisenhower shirt when cooler weather sets in. Come in and see our new shirts and maybe pick up a “bargain” red or blue one too.

Important Meal Accounts It is the USD 475 district policy, with regard to meal classifications, to extend whatever status the student ended the previous year, into the first thirty school days of the new school year. This would be thirty school days not counting weekends. In this case, these thirty days will end on September 29, 2017. At that time, if you have not completed a new lunch application for the 2017/2018 school year, and been requalified, your student will revert to full price status. If you have completed this qualification process during the enrollment period for this school year, you do not need to do anything further. Contact Mrs. Hill in the office (785) 717-4340 if you have questions.

Breakfast Just some quick information concerning students who come for breakfast. Eisenhower Elementary serves from 7:30 – 7:50 AM. Your student must be here between those times. The first bell to summon children to their classrooms will ring at 7:55 AM. Therefore, the students eathing breakfast must be finished and ready to go when the bell rings. If the child arrives in the breakfast room after 7:50 AM they will be turned away, because they do not have time to get their tray, get seated and eat before the bell rings. Please make sure your breakfast eater is in the building on time for this important meal of the day, and yes if they ride the bus they will be here on time.

Book Bags and Lunch Boxes Eisenhower Elementary’s enrollment is over 300 students, and we live in an area where there is limited shopping. Therefore many of us shop at Wal-Mart or Target, or a few other stores, and we buy most of the same items. At least when it comes to book bags and lunch boxes, many of them look alike. This results in a book bag or lunch box going to the wrong classroom with the wrong student. If you would please write your student’s name in their items it would help greatly. As winter comes along, this will also apply to coats, sweatshirts, hats and gloves. All the help you can give us will be much appreciated.

School Pictures Well it’s coming… on September 12th… it will be school individual picture day. These are those wonderful, often embarrassing (when you get older) pictures that really are treasures. These school keepsakes are way and above the very best present you can give to grandparents. Remember these photos are snapped from the waist up. Your student will not need new shoes, or new bottoms… just a nice shirt or sweater, clean face and hair combed. Packets will come home so you can choose the package of poses you want and pay for your choices. The

money must accompany the order form on the day of the pictures being taken. In years past, you have been able to choose your package and pay online. If you decide to do that, make a note of your confirmation number so you can give that to the photographer on picture day. Mark your calendars for September 12th.

Lunchtime Milk Even if your student is classified as free or reduced if they purchase a carton of milk at lunchtime to go along with their home lunch, it will cost 50 cents. The cartons of milk are not free no matter the student’s status, and they will receive a bill for this choice.

Wanted: Lunchtime Recess Aide Attention Moms, Dads, Grandmothers or Grandfathers or other relatives and friends. Eisenhower Elementary is in need of two lunchtime/recess aides. This is a perfect part-time job for a stay-at-home parent or a retired grandparent. The job is one and a half hours on days school is in session. This is a paid position, and will make for a little spending money especially with the holidays coming up. Besides the extra money you will also be able to interact with your student and their friends. The persons hired will either work in the lunchroom helping the students with their lunches and generally keeping order, or will work out on the playground to watch over the students while they play and once again, generally keeping order. If interested please go to the USD 475 website and click on the employment tab to put your application in. Once you have entered the application, please call the school and tell us so Mrs. Kamphaus can go into the site and pull your application. Give this opportunity some thought and we can promise you there is never a dull moment.
